Using the Roster Sandbox Mode

This feature allows you to experiment with roster changes in a sandbox environment without affecting the Live roster. You can create, modify, and test scenarios, then decide whether to publish your changes.

 

Enabling the Roster Sandbox Mode

The Roster Sandbox Mode is restricted to Superadmin users. Please contact FL3XX if you want this enabled.

Accessing the Roster Sandbox Mode

  1. In the Roster interface, click the Enter Sandbox Mode button.

  2. The system will create a snapshot of the current Live roster for the selected period (default: Today + 30 days).

  3. The Roster background will change to light blue, indicating that you are in Sandbox Mode.

Actions in Sandbox Mode

When in Sandbox Mode, several additional options are available:

1. Exit

Exiting Sandbox Mode displays the following options:

  • Cancel: Return to Sandbox Mode without any changes.

  • Publish: Merge the scenario with Live data.

  • Exit Without Saving: Discard all changes and exit Sandbox Mode.

  • Save: Save the scenario for later access.

2. Reset

  • Clears all changes made in the current scenario and restores the initial snapshot.

3. Save

Saving the scenario provides the following options:

  • Overwrite Scenario: Save changes to the current scenario.

  • Create New Scenario: Save changes as a new scenario with a user-defined name.

4. Publish

  • Merges the scenario with Live data.

  • Displays a confirmation prompt to ensure you want to proceed.

  • Retains day notes after merging, if applicable.

5. See Changes

  • View a detailed list of all changes made in the scenario, including crew, date, and modifications.

 

Managing Scenarios

  • Scenarios are locked to the user who creates or opens them. Other users can only view locked scenarios in read-only mode.

  • A message displays the name of the user editing the scenario (e.g., "John Doe is editing").

  • Locked scenarios are marked with a lock icon.

  • Secondary users can save a new version of a locked scenario using the + Add New Scenario option.

Accessing Saved Scenarios

  • Saved scenarios are available in a dropdown list (DDL) at the top left of the Roster interface.

  • Use the DDL to load, view, or manage saved scenarios.

Live Updates in Sandbox Mode

  • If roster items are modified in Live while you are in Sandbox Mode, the system will notify you.

  • You can choose to:

    • Refresh the scenario with Live changes while retaining your modifications.

    • Save both Live and user changes.

    • Drop the scenario entirely.

Printing Scenarios

  • The Download PDF button is available only after a scenario is saved or merged.

  • Ensure all desired changes are saved or published before generating a PDF.

Supported Changes in Sandbox Mode

You can perform the following actions on roster duties (currently flights are not supported):

  • Add new duties.

  • Remove existing duties.

  • Modify duty properties such as time, location, and duration.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Use descriptive names when saving scenarios to easily identify them later.

  • Regularly check for Live updates to avoid conflicts during publishing.

  • Avoid making overlapping duties unless intentionally testing edge cases.

  • Always confirm actions, especially when publishing a scenario to Live.

FAQ

Q: Can multiple users edit the same scenario? A: No, scenarios are locked to the user who creates or opens them first. Other users can only view the scenario or save a new version.

Q: What happens to unsaved changes when I exit Sandbox Mode? A: You will be prompted to save your changes or exit without saving. Unsaved changes will be discarded if you choose not to save.

Q: Can I see what changes I made in a scenario? A: Yes, click the See Changes option to view a list of all modifications.

Q: Can I revert my changes? A: Use the Reset button to clear all changes and restore the initial snapshot.
